What's it Like in a Radioactive Thorium Mine? How radioactive is a Thorium mine? For how long can one stay there? Do you need a lamp in a Thorium mine or does it . A strategy meeting to oppose uranium mining in B.C. will be held in Kelowna on Feb. 21, "Residents are up in arms about the lifting of the government's own moratorium on uranium mining along the Kettle River," said Jenny Fletcher, committee spokeswoman. Boss Power applied to the province for work permits on the Blizzard claim on April

Another valuable source of information of the geochemistry of uranium and thorium minerals is the U.S. Geological Survey bulletin , Systematic Mineralogy of Uranium and Thorium. Dana’s New Mineralogy has proven to be very valuable in verifying much of the data listed in this site. In the Bancroft area, Ontario, Canada, Precambrian uranium deposits (black dots, Figures 1,2) occur within the margins of large gneissic domes (pink, Figure 4), either in enclosing metasediments (crystalline limestone, paragneiss, amphibolite) or plutonic rocks (older gabbro, younger granite, syenite, and pegmatitic phases). The U deposits have been divided into pegmatite, metasomatic or vein.

Large thorium resources are found in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Greenland (Denmark), India, South Africa, and the United States. The primary sources of the world’s thorium are the rare-earth and thorium phosphate mineral monazite deposits. In the United States, thorium has been a byproduct of refining monazite for its rare-earth content. Thorite is the most common thorium mineral. Thorium is a highly radioactive element and could be used as a replacement for uranium in nuclear power generation. It is estimated to be three times as common as uranium and all the thorium in the Earth's crust could have more potential energy than both uranium and the fossil fuel reserves combined.

The uranium deposit at Cigar Lake is located in northern Saskatchewan, Canada. The uranium mineralisation is located at m depth and surrounded by a clay-rich zone formed due to the local hydrothermal alteration of the host sandstone close to the contact between the sandstone and the basement rocks (Cramer and Smellie, ).

Sedimentary Uranium Deposits. Uranium is a lithophile element of relatively low natural abundance. Concentrations of uranium form through processes of erosion and sedimentation, and over 90 per cent of the western world's uranium ore reserves are in sedimentary rocks. Alamos is a Canadian-based intermediate gold producer with diversified production from four operating mines in North America.

This includes the Young-Davidson and Island Gold mines in northern Ontario, Canada and the Mulatos and El Chanate mines in Sonora State, Mexico. The UDEPO database was revised and expanded in to store to provide more detailed information on uranium geology and technical characteristics of the deposits.
